After work a PBR tall boy and I went to see Safety Not Guaranteed. I needed to watch something sweet, something that would just wash over me but I couldn’t relax. I was really distracted by all the scenes of them on the Washington Coast. It’s been so long since I’ve been to the ocean. And, why? It’s just right over there. How come I didn’t go last summer? Or this fall? Or the summer before? It’s been almost two years since I’ve sat on the beach in a knit hat feeling the wind on my face and that’s entirely too long. 

I have some real issues with this movie. It’s twee, unbelievable and cloying but I suppose that was obvious from the trailer. The most distracting thing, besides the windy beach, is that one of the FBI agents is played by a dude who lives up the street from me. Our sons played football and baseball together for years. He also had some mild success in the early 90’s as a rapper. When I’d see him on the screen it just made the whole thing feel like a home movie or something. Using Kid Sensation is just too low-budget, too indie and I couldn’t take it seriously.

I’m totally driving to beach this weekend. I’m going to stay in some crappy hotel, ride go-karts, eat taffy and sleep really well.
